MT. SIDNEY, VA… James Clifton Harris, 78, of Mount Sidney died on May 24, 2016. Born in Staunton on August 5, 1937, Jim was the son of the late George B. and Mabel Wagner Harris. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and was employed by DuPont for over forty years. After his retirement he volunteered time to Friends of the Shenandoah River and was a charter member of Cherryvale United Methodist Church that he attended for nearly sixty years. He was preceded in death by a brother George B. Harris, Jr. Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years Charlene; a sister, Donna L. Ashby; and his children, James G. Harris (Marcy) of Middleburg, Virginia, Jeff C. Harris of Middlebrook, Virginia, Lisa Chambers (Steve) of Mount Sidney, Virginia, and Douglas J. Harris. His seven grandchildren include Charlotte Harris of Middleburg, Virginia, Alex Harris of Los Angeles, California, Meredith Harris of Denver, Colorado, Clif Harris of Middlebrook, Virginia, Rachel Harris of Middlebrook, Virginia, Cate Chambers of Mount Sidney, Virginia, Kerry Lee Chambers of Mount Sidney, Virginia and a great-grandson Tylton James Harris. A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2016, in Cherryvale United Methodist Church, 709 Cherry Hill Drive, Staunton, VA, by the Rev. Clayton Payne. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Cherryvale United Methodist Church.
