Albert John Finke, Jr., 82, passed away on January 19, 2025, after a long illness. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.

He was born on February 27, 1942, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Albert John Finke, Sr. and Delia Mae Hart Finke Clark.

John was a proud graduate of North Hills High School in Pittsburgh, having completed his education in 1960. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree from West Virginia University in 1965. His professional career commenced in Milwaukee, WI, where he worked for nine years post-graduation. After earning his Master of Science in Engineering degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he made the transition to DuPont in Waynesboro in 1974, where he dedicated thirty years of his life as a mechanical engineer. Following his retirement, he worked at Staunton Subaru.

John possessed a diverse array of interests that brought him much joy throughout his life. He enjoyed ice skating and had a passion for music, playing the trombone in his high school band and singing in the church choir. A lifelong love for design led him to collect model train sets and engage in the design of cars and houses, showcasing his creative spirit.

John is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-nine years, Betty Gene Rule Finke; his daughter, Sandra Lynn Finke McGrath of Fishersville; his sons, John Rule Finke and his wife, Karen, of Charlottesville; Robert Jeffrey Finke and his wife, Beth, of Cincinnati, OH; and William Gregory Finke and his wife, Zoe of Chesapeake. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alexandra C. McCool and her husband, Austin, of Oxford, MS; Amelia R. Finke and Samuel R. Finke, both of Charlottesville; Katelyn E., Emma C., James A., and Ethan M. Finke, all of Cincinnati, OH; and Evan W. Finke of Chesapeake. Additionally, he is survived by his nephews, David M. Kennedy and his wife, Karen, of Cleveland, OH, Scott A. Kennedy and his wife, Nicole, of Columbus, OH, and Stephen R. Wilson and his wife, Ali, of Mentor, OH.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Joan Margaret Finke Kennedy; his brother-in-law, Keith S. Kennedy; and his sister-in-law, Jane E. Rule Wilson.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with the Reverend Russell Heinrich officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM.

Interment will follow at Augusta Memorial Park in Staunton.
