Bert Edward Fary, 87, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at his residence in Staunton. He was born on November 21, 1935, in Washington, DC.
Bert was a devoted supervisor for Arlington County Parks and Recreation for an impressive thirty-seven years. As a supervisor, Bert's commitment to excellence and his tireless efforts ensured that countless individuals could enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the county's parks year-round.
Outside of his professional life, Bert cherished spending quality time with his beloved family and close-knit circle of friends. Whether it was organizing gatherings or simply enjoying each other's company, these moments were always cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing Bert. He was also a dedicated member of St. Paul's Church in Staunton.
There was nothing he found more satisfying than working outdoors in his lawn and ensuring that his vehicles sparkled – inside and out. His meticulous attention to detail was well known among his family and friends.
Bert is preceded in death by his parents, William Mack and Florence Virginia Lacy Fary and his grandson, Jason Hall.
He is survived by his devoted wife Helen Anne Haden Fary of sixty-three years; his three daughters, Donna Jean Fary Wright of Delray, WV, Lisa Anne Fary Adams of Staunton, and Shirley Kaye Fary Maricle of Staunton; his grandchildren, Kylie Adams, Tayler Langston, and Sydney Adams; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens.
