BILLY LEE SNYDER WESLEY CHAPEL, FL… Billy (Bill) Lee Snyder, 70, husband of Carolyn (DePriest) Young Snyder of Wesley Chapel, Florida (formerly of Staunton) died October16, at Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, FL. A son of the late Lewis F. Snyder and Elsie (Heslep) Snyder Hanger, he was born on February 16, 1946 in Rockbridge County. He grew up in the Concord Church of the Brethren, Fairfield, VA, enjoying working with the youth in Choir music. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force assigned to the 93rd Civil Engineering Squadron at Castle Air Force Base. His first assignment was Guam working on B52’s and F106S. After his discharge he started his construction business working in Rockbridge, Augusta, and Rockingham counties. After 30 years in business he retired and moved to Wesley Chapel, FL in August 2004. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Snyder of Raphine; a daughter, Angela (Snyder) Messer and husband, Charles, four grandchildren, Julia, Olivia, Davis, and Ava, all of Richmond; a daughter, Christina (Snyder) Lorusso and husband, John, and grandsons, Anthony and Michael, all of Lincoln University, PA; a stepdaughter, Sherry Reeves of Wesley Chapel, FL; a stepson, Kevin Young of Safety Harbor, FL; a niece, Terri Fitzgerald and Craig; and a great-nephew, Jeremiah, all of Spottswood; a great-niece, Angel Fitzgerald of Verona; a great-great nephew, Jesse Shinaberry; a nephew, Kevin Snyder of Staunton; a step-brother, Eddie Hanger of Florida; and Bill’s beloved service dog, Shy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis F. Snyder, Jr. A service will be conducted at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church, Steeles Tavern, VA at 10 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2016, with Rev. Stan Ogden officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at Henry Funeral Home on Thursday, October 20, 2016, from 6 until 8 p.m. There will be no public viewing. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that those desiring may make memorial donations to Concord Church of the Brethren, Fairfield, VA., treasurer, Don Denny, 8147 N. Lee Highway, Raphine, VA 24472 and the American Cancer Society, 1445 E. Rio Road, Suite 104, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
