CARMEN S. DAVIS STAUNTON, VA Carmen Samuel Davis, 88, husband of Peggy (Gurley) Davis died Sunday, September 10, 2011 at Augusta Health. He was born September 23, 1922 in Harriston, a son of the late Thomas Aaron and Hester (Hulvey) Davis. Carmen was a veteran of the U. S. Army from 1942-1946 and graduated from Virginia Tech in 1950. For 61 years he was a member of Beverly Manor Ruritan Club, secretary of Augusta County Farm Bureau, a member of Staunton Church of the Brethren, and served as a volunteer dispatcher for the Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad. He was an avid golfer and loyal Hokie fan. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the Farm Bureau and was one of the founding agents for Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance. In addition to his wife, family members include a son, Thomas Davis, three step children, David and Susan Hurst, Suzanne Booher, and Elizabeth Hurst; four grandchildren, Ariana Davis, Sarah Sayre and husband, Brad, Lauran Weatherly and husband, Jon, and Kaelan Lane and husband, Justin; three great grandchildren, Micah and McKinzie Sayre, and Leland Lane; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Burdine Hyden Davis, two brothers, Alvin and Vernon Davis, and two sisters, Louise Davis and Christine Leighton. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Staunton Church of the Brethren by Rev. Scott L. Duffey. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church and other times at his residence.
