Carolyn Paige Vines, 72, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at her residence in Middlebrook.

She was born April 29, 1952, in Staunton to the late William Elmer Vines and Thelma Grace Vines Painter (Fleisher).

She was employed as a social worker with Western State Hospital for forty years.

Carolyn was well known for her philanthropy in the area with multiple animal shelters and local welfare groups such as the SPCA, Valley Mission and her favorite thrift store with Love Inc. She also contributed to PETA, the World Wildlife Federation and groups such as the Wounded Warrior Project and the Middlebrook Ruritan Club. Carolyn also had a deep love for gardening and flowers.

She is survived by her three nieces, Angela Surratt, Laurie Moss, and Charity Campbell; her stepdaughter, Kristin Hubbard and her husband, Matt; her stepson, Brannon Oberg and his wife, Katy; her brother-in-law, Jim Oberg and his wife, Susie; her sister-in-law, Marilyn Rimel and her husband, Jim; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; grandnieces and grandnephews; her uncle and aunt, Thomas and Rita Fleisher; and her cousins, Jennifer Frank, Sandra Kay Moore, Jay Garber, Patti Adcox, Suzanne Rice, Michelle Moomaw, Mark Fleisher, Matthew Fleisher, Sara Wilkinson, Dean Argenbright, Steve Corbin, Scott Fleisher, Amber Armstrong, Julie Rhodes and their respective families.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ronald N. Oberg, and her sister, Fonda Vines Campbell.

The family will receive friends at a celebration of life, with a date and location soon forthcoming.

Special thanks to several of her close coworkers and friends for their caregiving during her last days.
