Catherine C. Chaney

Catherine (Peggy) Connelly Chaney, brightened this world on March 14, 1924 and peacefully passed away on June 22, 2017. Peggy was married to the late Charles Chaney Jr. for 48 years and resided most of her life in Ellicott City, Md.               Peggy is survived by her brother Michael Patrick Connelly and his wife Geri Connelly of Bradenton, Florida; her two children Nancy Chaney Alexander and husband Scott Alexander of Swoope, Va.; and Charles Chaney III and wife Pamela Ellsworth Chaney of Rockwall, Texas. Peggy will also be missed by her five grandchildren: Matthew Alexander of Lincoln Nebraska, Andrew Alexander of Austin Texas, Stephen Alexander of California, Maryland, Melissa Chaney of Portland, Oregon, and Timothy Chaney of  Los Angeles; and five amazing great grandchildren.             Peggy had a quick wit, unmatched sense of humor and exuberance for life.  She loved people, especially children; she also loved golf, antiques, gardening and nature, often expressing her wonder at the “little” things of God’s creation from the little birds of the field to the beautiful clouds in the sky.  Her joy and zest for life and people was contagious and a light to many. She will be fondly remembered and missed by family and the many friends and neighbors in Maryland and in Virginia where she spent the last years of her life.             A celebration of Peggy’s life will be on July 21, 2017 at 10am in the gardens at Royal Care Senior Living, 54 Imperial Drive Staunton, VA 24401.  In lieu of flowers please give those around you a smile today; any money gifted to Alzheimer's Research is appreciated.             The family would also like to thank the staff of Royal Care and Baldwin Park, and especially her long-time aide Linda Frey, for the excellent care and love she was provided with over these many years.  Finally thanks to Brad Bennett, staff and volunteers of Hospice of the Shenandoah.             Arrangements have been entrusted to Henry Funeral Home.
