Daniel W. Knopp

Daniel Wesley Knopp, 96, passed away on February 17, 2025, at AVIVA Baldwin Park in Staunton.

He was born on December 18, 1928, in Augusta County, a son of the late George Henry and Bessie Fields Black Knopp.

Mr. Knopp was the owner of Knopp Enterprises, Inc. and the Knopp Company. He proudly retired in 1968 as an officer in the United States Army. His tours of duty included service in the Korean War and duties in the Pentagon. He served on General William Westmoreland's staff in Vietnam and commanded a nuclear artillery battalion in Germany.

Mr. Knopp was a past president of the Staunton Kiwanis Club. He served many years as an elder in the First Presbyterian Church and later joined Memorial Baptist Church. He enjoyed the Christian fellowship of his Sunday School class. His hobbies included golf and fishing. He was also an avid bridge player.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Orene Brown Knopp; his brothers, Paul Black, Mark Lytton, James Maurice, Hiram Morris, Joseph Philip, and Simon Welcome Knopp, and his sisters, Alice Rebecca Knopp Phillippe, Elizabeth Virginia Knopp Rodgers, and Rhoda Joy Knopp Mayes.

He is survived by his daughter, Dana Lynn Knopp Krusz and her husband, Kary, of Staunton; his sister, Anna Ruth Knopp Rathburn of Staunton; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Blair Gordon and her husband, Lucas, and their children, Annie and Braxton, of Richmond, Brandon Wesley Krusz and his wife, Joy, and their children, Ethan, Adalyn, and Rebekah Hull and her fiancé, Silas James, also of Staunton.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Memorial Baptist Church in Staunton with the Reverends Todd Latham and Temple Myers officiating.

Interment in Thornrose Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that those desiring may make memorial contributions to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital (501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105).
