Donald L. Plambeck, 90, of Staunton, Virginia, died Saturday, October 29th at his residence at Brightview Baldwin Park. Don was born August 12th, 1932 in Denver, Colorado, son of Emil and Emma Plambeck. Don attended University of Colorado to complete his B.A. and M.A. degrees. In the early ‘70’s, Don moved to Virginia with his young family. While working and raising his family, he attended University of Virginia to complete his Doctorate in Education. He had a very accomplished career working as the National Director of Education for the United Way of America as well as working as a private leadership consultant for various agencies such as American Red Cross, Boys and Girls Club of America, National YMCA, Special Olympics, and Harvard University of Business School. Don also served as a board member for the Woodrow Wilson Presidential LIbrary, Augusta Medical Center Foundation and the Valley Conservation Council. Don coached his children’s youth soccer teams, designed and created beautiful gardens wherever he lived, played tennis, crafted in wood, painted, and was an avid fisherman. He was also an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Staunton and created many wooden figurines for their Godly Play program.
Don joins his wife, Shannon Bray Smith, and his son, Steven Plambeck, in eternal rest. In addition to his wife and son, Don’s family members include two daughters and a son-in-law, (Catherine and Doug McGuffey, Amy Ebner), two step-daughters and their husbands (Molly and Charles Stockley; Tenley and Donald Evans), five grandchildren as well as five step-grandchildren.

Donald will be laid to rest with his wife at Trinity Episcopal Church.
