Elizabeth C. Jones

On February 6, 2023, Elizabeth “Betty” Harmon Jones went to be with her Lord. Born in 1941 in Albemarle County, she was the daughter of S.V. and Margaret Corbett. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and later from Valley Technical School. She retired from Baldwin Park Assisted Living Facility where she was employed as Social Director.

Betty was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Staunton where she was one of the first female deacons of that church. She loved to sing and was a member of the church choir as well as a soloist from her youth until her health caused her to stop singing.

She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Capt. Steven Corbett, USMC.

She is survived by her husband, Richard, of the home as well as her sister, Rebecca Corbett, also of Staunton. Survivors include daughter Allison Betz. Son-in-law, Chris Betz and grandson Ryan, all from Maryland. She is also survived by a nephew, Kevin Breheny of Boston, MA; and step-sons Michael and Allen Jones, both of North Carolina.

There will be a graveside ceremony at Thornrose Cemetery on Friday, February 10, 2023 at 1:00 PM officiated by Rev. Dr. Steve Traylor and Danny Pritchett. A gathering of family and friends will take place after the service in the social hall of First Baptist Church of Staunton (406 W Frederick St., Staunton, VA 24401).
