Elza D. Thompson

Elza Marie Donald Thompson, 92, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025. at her residence in Staunton. She was a devoted daughter, loving mother, and cherished friend, whose kindness and warmth touched the lives of many.

She was born on February 22, 1932, in Natural Bridge to the late Benjamin Lyle, Sr. and Clara Maude Creasy Donald.

Throughout her life, Elza developed a deep appreciation for nature, cultivating a love for plants and flowers of all types, with a special fondness for wildflowers. She found joy in cooking and baking, sharing her culinary creations with loved ones. Together with her husband, she embraced a spirit of adventure, traveling and camping across the country, creating cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of her family.

Elza is survived by her son, Timothy William Thompson, and his fiancée, Patty Gwozdecke of Middletown; her daughter, Robin Elaine Thompson Harrison, and her husband, Maurice of Staunton; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and some close friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Thompson; her brother, Benjamin "B.L." Lyle Donald, Jr.; her sister, Clara Virginia Donald Garrison; and her half-brother, Floyd "Monk" Benjamin Donald.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, February 17, 2025, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.

A funeral service will be held the following day, Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 1:00 PM, also at Henry Funeral Home, with the Reverend Clay Sterrett officiating.

Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton.
