Emily Geraldine Hammer Cook, 95, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at her residence in Swoope.

She was born on October 5, 1929, in Hot Springs, to the late James Edward, Sr. and Mamie Blanche Armstrong Hammer.

Emily worked at Dupont in Waynesboro before dedicating herself to being a homemaker. She will be remembered for her radiant smile, which led her to reign as Miss Dupont in 1949. She was also a devoted member of Fishersville United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her sons, Boyd “Bodie” Earnest Cook, Jr., Kevin Wilson Cook and David Scott Cook; her grandchildren, Summer Roach, Scotti Lanford, Taylor Cook, and Gunner Cook; and her great- grandchildren, Brynlee Roach, Hudson Roach, Karagan Lanford, Emily Lanford, and Blake Hawkins; and her sister-in law, Peggy Hammer.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of seventy years, Boyd Earnest Cook, Sr.; her son, Gary Edward Cook; her brothers, James Edward Hammer, Jr. and the Reverend Earl “Nicky” William Hammer; and her sisters, Betty Florence Hammer Davis and Virginia Lee Hammer Murray.

The funeral services will be private.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the comfort and care provided to Emily by Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah.
