Ethel Virginia Elizabeth (Colvin) Massie, 89, widow of Ernest Hensley Massie, Sr., of 45 Morris Mill Road, died Saturday, July 27, 2013 at her residence. She was born March 6, 1924, in Craigsville, a daughter of the late George Thomas and Annie (Crawford) Colvin. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Massie was employed by King's Daughters' Hospital. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph N. Massie; a daughter, Teresa A. Massie; four brothers, Rev. William Edgar Colvin, Jesse Colvin, John Samuel Colvin, and Charlie Colvin; and four sisters, Lillie Massie, Gertrude Via, Mattie Carper, and Annie Byram. Family members include two sons, George Thomas Massie and Ernest Hensley Massie, II, both of Staunton; a daughter and son-in-law, Renita and James A. Searles, Jr. of Bumpass, VA; a brother, George Thomas Colvin, Jr. of Staunton; six grandchildren, Erica and Denny Massie, Travis and Dustin Foster, Crystal Massie, Stephanie Mancuso; five great grandchildren, Morgan Massie, Gunner, Styles, and Marley Mancuso, and Brandon Shaver; close friends, Barbara Carpenter, Brenda Tankesley, Ann Austin, Jane Law, Sandy Matthews, Joyce Wilfong, Ramona Lovegrove, and Betty Earhart; and a special friend and caregiver, Kristol Wilkerson. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Joe Sherrill. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Gary Lee Colvin, Mark Colvin, Sammy Colvin, Jr., Denny Massie, Travis Foster, and Dustin Foster. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews and Eric Myers. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2013 in the funeral home and other times at her residence, 45 Morris Mill Road, Staunton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, PO Box 937, Verona, VA 24482
