Eugene “Jack” Thomas Whitesell, 93, of Fishersville, husband of Brenda Jane Gilbert Whitesell, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, at River Edge Rehabilitation and Nursing in Fishersville.

He was born on February 13, 1931, in Greenville, to the late Wayt Hamilton, Sr. and Charlene Catherine McLear Whitesell.

A proud veteran, Jack served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was member of the Staunton-Augusta VFW Post #2216, Teamster Local 29, and Third Presbyterian Church in Staunton. He retired from Smith's Transfer Corporation after thirty-four years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, golfing, and motorcycling. 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Jean Smiley Whitesell; a daughter, Debra Kay Whitesell Rasnake; a step great-granddaughter, Addison Bower; his brothers, Russell Henderson Whitesell, Fred Wilson Whitesell, Sr., Carl "Joe" Glenwood Whitesell, Wayt Hamilton Whitesell, Jr., and Paul Archie Whitesell; and his sisters, Helen Catherine Whitesell Cash, Mabel Virginia Whitesell Campbell, and Shirley Ann Whitesell Murphy. He was the last surviving member of his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Kim Ellen Whitesell Craig and her husband, John H. Craig III; his grandchildren, Scott Craig and Victor Rosen and his wife, Nicole; his great-grandchildren, Aidan and Morgan Craig, Hudson and Henley Rosen; his step-daughter, Denise Hughes Brooks; his step-grandchildren, Brett, Kayla, and Derek Bower; his step-great-grandsons, Bryce and Wyatt Bower; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton with Pastor Jacob Singleton officiating. 

The family will receive friends at the home and the home of his daughter, Kim Craig.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Augusta County Fire and Rescue's Preston Yancey Station (1025 Lee Highway, Fishersville, VA 22939) or to Third Presbyterian Church (1313 Barterbrook Road, Staunton, VA 24401).
