Evelyn Lucille Blackwell Smith, 88, widow of Jack Maynard Smith, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Augusta Health.

Mrs. Smith was born on September 24, 1934 in Rockbridge County, Virginia to the late Elijah Mitchell and Mary Margaret (Clark) Smith.

She retired from Waynesboro Hospital and Augusta Health in the surgical sterilization department. Evelyn was a member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir. She was an avid crocheter, loved working word puzzles, enjoyed coloring and cooking.

She is survived by a daughter, Debra B. Faught (Warren); two sons, Mack Blackwell (Donna) and Sterlin Blackwell (Nancy); step-sons, Jack Smith (Sharon), Geary Smith (Terry), and Glen Smith; two brothers, James “Pete” Smith and Roy Smith; a sister, Molly Billings; twelve grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren with another one on the way; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, April 17, 2023 at Henry Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Augusta Memorial Park by Reverend Elizabeth von Trapp Walker.
