Forest H. Halterman, Jr.

Forest Henry Halterman, Jr., 83, passed away on February 14, 2025, at Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah House, in Staunton.

He was born on December 26, 1941, in Augusta County, to the late Forest Henry Halterman, Sr. and Marie Catherine Huffman Halterman. 

For more than 60 years, Forest took great pride in owning and operating Halterman’s Body Shop, where he built lasting relationships and a legacy of hard work. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a devoted member of Community Fellowship Church in Staunton. A proud graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton, Class of 1960, Forest had a lifelong passion for automobiles, which extended beyond his work-he was also a dedicated race car driver. Above all, he cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and love in return.

He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Frances Halterman, Christine Marie Halterman and Pamela Sue Halterman; his brothers, James Franklin Halterman, Donald Lee Halterman and his wife, Gail, Jerry Lynn Stotler and his wife, Maria Victoria, and John Ray Halterman; his sisters, Betty Jean Halterman Bayne, Mary Ann Halterman Spitzer and her husband, Robert, and Shirley Mae Halterman; and his grandchildren, Shana Halterman, Tiffany Key, Ricco Jenkins, Heather Halterman, and Lester Stewart; and his great-grandchildren, Elijah, Uriah, Taijon, Aalaesha, Savannah, Piper, Mason, Jaxen, and Lucas.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Carroll Halterman; his son, Tony Cletus Halterman; and his brother, Bobby “Monk” Allen Halterman.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with the Rev. Clay Sterrett officiating.

A private interment will follow at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton.
