Foster Raymond Drury

FOSTER RAYMOND DRURY STAUNTON, VA Foster Raymond Drury, husband of Patricia Ann Drury died Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at his residence. He was born September 2, 1939 in Gouverneur, NY, the son of Dr. Foster T. and Elva (Raymond) Drury. Mr. Drury attended Gouverneur High School, graduating in 1957, and Williams College, Williamstown, MA, graduating in 1961. While at Williams, he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He went on to do graduate work at The University of Vermont, Burlington, VT and at McGill Medical School in Montreal, Quebec. Mr. Drury spent his career in the insurance industry, where he held a variety of positions culminating in being named Vice President, Director of Group Sales and Marketing at The Hartford Insurance Group. In 1992, he joined The TransGeneral Life Insurance Company where he became Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, a position he held until 1996 when he retired. Ray loved hunting, gardening and his New York Football Giants. He also was an avid duplicate bridge player, obtaining the coveted Life Master rating in 2000. After moving to Stuanton in 2001, he was very active with his wife, Pat in raising miniature llamas. He and his wife were active members of Staunton Grace Covenant Church. In addition to his wife, family members include two children by a previous marriage, Melissa McLane of Hebron, KY and Meredith Murphy of Pawleys Island, SC. He also is survived by two step-daughters, Suzanne Salchert of Union, KY and Amy Vince Bank of East Falmouth, MA; seven grandchildren; and two step granddaughters. Mr. Drury was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dianne Halloran Gagnon. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2011, in the Staunton Grace Covenant Church by the Rev. Steve Paulus. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Staunton Salvation Army, P. O.
