Frances Painter Coffey, 96, a beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Brightview Baldwin Park in Staunton.
She was born on December 15, 1927, in Staunton, to the late James Andrew and Annie Pearl Wood Painter.
In her professional journey, Frances started as a switch board operator with C & P Telephone Company before transitioning into a fulfilling role as a certified nursing assistant at Baldwin Park. Her dedication to caring for others left a lasting impact on all those she encountered throughout her career.
Outside of work, Frances enjoyed collecting dolls.
In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her loving husband, Louis Edward Coffey, and her sisters, Annie Painter Owens, Clara Painter Shreckhise, and Helen Painter Staton.
She is survived by her nephews, John C. Shreckhise and his wife, Marilyn, Daniel K. Shreckhise and his wife, Linda, and Wade Staton; her niece, Patsy Thompson; as well as a special sister, Jean Dickerson. She is also survived by numerous great-nieces and nephews.
The family would like to especially thank the nurses and staff of Brightview Baldwin Park and Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Steeles Tavern. Following that, a memorial service to celebrate Frances's life will be held at 4:30 PM at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with the Reverend John McDonald officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
