Frances Marie Brown Marchant, 86, wife of deceased Charles Lincoln Marchant of 55 years, went to join him in Heaven on Friday July 2, 2021. She had been a resident of Brookdale Nursing Home from 2014 until June 2021, then moved to Kings Daughters Nursing Home, where she passed away, both in Staunton, Va.
Frances was born February 9, 1935 in Grayson County, Va., daughter of the late Alice Brown Ross and Leonard C. Ross. She retired in 1962 from Harwood Sewing factory in Marion, Va. to proceed with a lifetime filled with raising children, not only her and Charles’s own 3 adopted children, but the both of them foster-parenting close to twenty additional children over a 30 year span. She and Charles were founding members of Ridgeview Baptist Church, in Stuarts Draft, Va.
Frances greatly enjoyed being a “Homemaker”, which she was AWESOME at!!. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing for family and many others. She was also an asset to her husband, in assisting him in his upholstery business for many years. Her passion for sewing, gardening and canning and many other talents, was not only greatly enjoyed and appreciated by her own family, but many others as well.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Shirley Ross Sexton, her husband Charles Lincoln Marchant in 2009 and a grandson Brian Eric Wrenn in 2012. Surviving are: a daughter Charlotte Marie Marchant Chance of Lexington, Va., two sons: William Bernard Marchant of Louisiana and Brandon Edward Marchant of Staunton, Va., four grandchildren: David Wrenn, David, Channing and Madison Marchant and three great grandchildren: Montana Wrenn, Serenity Thompson-Wrenn and Mason Wrenn. She also had an extended family of: a brother-in-law: John E. Marchant III and wife Linda of King, N.C., and a sister-in-law: Shelby Powell, of Marion, Va., along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2021 in Augusta Memorial Park.
