Gail Gibson Smith, 86, of Staunton, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville.

She was born in Herndon on July 3, 1938, a daughter of the late Mason Francis and Marian Gibson Herndon Smith.

Gail was a member of St. Paul's Church in Staunton and was retired from Westinghouse Electric Corporation/McQuay International with forty-four years of service. She later worked for Belle Grae Inn, Deborah Gartzke - Attorney at Law, and Home Instead Senior Care.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Malrie Herndon Smith; her uncles, Starke Smith and his wife, Emma, and Joe Rucker and his wife, Alice; and seven half-brothers.

She is survived by her brother, Starke Herndon Smith and his wife, Jean; her nieces, Elaine S. Campbell, Emily S. Reno and her husband, John; her great-nieces, Haley and Anna Campbell and Lindsey Reno; her great-nephew, Mason Reno; many special friends; and her beloved cats.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with the Reverend Russell Heinrich officiating.

Inurnment at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton will be private and at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Church (2000 Shutterlee Mill Road, Staunton, VA 24401); The Augusta Regional SPCA (PO Box 2014, Staunton, VA 24402); Cat’s Cradle (PO Box 2128, Harrisonburg, VA 22802); or to the Highland County Humane Society (PO Box 458, Monterey, VA 24465).
