STAUNTON, VA. Gayle E. (Staples) Hughes went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 26, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. She was born on June 23, 1948 in Bath, Maine, the daughter of the late Frank S. and June (Tapley) Godin Staples. She grew up in Waterville, Maine. After her graduation she moved to Washington, DC to work at the Pentagon where she met her beloved husband, Stephen. They were united in marriage in 1968 and then moved to Staunton. Gayle worked as a customer service representative for many years and retired from Dunham Bush. Survivors include her loving husband of 47 years, Stephen; brothers, Robert and Gregg; children, Cheri, John and Steve, Jr. (Dana), all of Staunton; grandchildren, Michael (Chelsi), Shellie, Devin, Kacey, Tasia, Taylor, Hunter and Peyton; great grandchildren, Rylan, Keaghan, Leo and Makynlee; several nieces, nephews and cousins; an aunt, Shirley; and special friends, Connie, Nancy, and Sharon Boyd. A memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 30, 2015 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Colleen Titus. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
