Glenda R. Powell

Glenda Louise (Rowe) Powell, 76, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29,2024 at her home surrounded by her family.

Glenda was born on July 13, 1947 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Lester Otterbine and Frances Irene Jordan Rowe of Staunton.

Everyone who had the honor of knowing her called her Nanny. She was a wonderful wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was always there when she was needed, offering support, wisdom and most importantly love.

Glenda is preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Frances Rowe; her sister that she loved dearly, Loretta Staton; and her best friend and daughter, Donna Clifton.

She leaves behind her husband, Steward Allen Powell, whom she joined in marriage on January 28,1983; her daughters, Gail Lawhorne and her late husband, William Lawhorne of Vesuvius, Sherry Swecker and Randy Swecker of Bridgewater; her son-in-law, Tommy Clifton of Staunton; her brother-in-law, Wade Staton; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great- grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and countless family and friends, including a special cousin, Ms. Susan Newton, whom she considered a sister.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Thornrose Cemetery with Reverends Randall Black and Dennis Taylor officiating.

Serving as active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Dustin Butler, Richard Clifton and Derek Swecker; her son-in-law, Randy Swecker, Dan Beckett and Jennifer White.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
