Helen Louise (Beam) Ambler, 90, widow of Robert Cary Ambler, Jr., passed away Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Bon Secours Chester Emergency Center.

Mrs. Ambler was born on May 2, 1932 in Staunton to the late Robert Chambers Beam, Sr. and Mae Vernon (Brower) Beam.

She loved horses, enjoyed the Kentucky Derby, and also loved gardening. She was an avid book-reader who especially loved works of fiction and cookbooks. With her husband’s service in the United States Air Force, she was blessed to have been able to travel and live in such places as England, Germany, South Carolina, and Colorado. She will fondly be remembered as a loving wife and mother.

Mrs. Ambler is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Cary III and Linda (Sutton) Ambler; a daughter, Helen Jacqueline “Jackie” Ambler; three grandchildren, Jillian F. Ambler of Waynesboro, Rachel C. Henley of Christiansburg, and Robert Cary Ambler IV of Staunton; brothers-in-law, John D. (Annette) and Beverly L. (Rachel) Ambler; a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Womble; a special pet, Lilly; very special friends, Charles and Ruby Dabney and Elizabeth “Liz” Wilkinson; and a number of nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Gay Beam Briggs for her support and care of Lilly.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three brothers, Robert C. (Betty Lee), George, and Warren (Betty Gay) Beam and a sister-in-law, Janet Ann Joseph.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Friday, October 7, 2022 at Thornrose Cemetery by Reverend A.J. Heine.
