Helen Vernice Painter Mooneyham, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah House in Fishersville. She was a wondeful lady who touched the lives of all who knew her with her warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family.

She was born on April 17, 1931, in Augusta County, to the late Raymond David and Hazel Virginia Cash Painter.

Helen was a life-long devoted member of Fishersville Baptist Church, where her faith inspired many and played a significant role in her life. She cherished her family above all, raising her grandsons, Chad and Josh Shiflett, with love and dedication. Her heart was truly happiest when surrounded by her immediate and extended family. Family reunions held at her sister's home were occasions that filled her with joy, as she delighted in creating lasting memories with loved ones.

An avid reader, Helen spent countless hours reading and enjoying the challenges of crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her son, Morriston Moyer Mooneyham, Jr. and his wife, Dora S.; her grandchildren, Chad and Josh Shiflett and Megan Dawson and Melissa Torrella; and her sisters, Betty Jean Painter Critzer, Patsy Ann Painter Rea, Barbara Ann Painter Dollens, Mary Lee Painter Atkins, and Ruth Louise Painter Cragg. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Morriston Moyer Mooneyham, Sr.; her daughter, Vickie Lynn Mooneyham; her son, Arthur "Cubby" Clay Mooneyham; her sisters, Alice Ray Painter Moore and Agnes Virginia Painter Critzer; and her brothers, Leroy Austin, Lester Allen, and Charles Richard Painter.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
