HOMER F. ANDERSON VESUVIUS, VA Homer Franklin Anderson, 97, husband of Louise Bell (Farris) Anderson, of 16031 Crabtree Falls Highway, died Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at his residence. He was born October 22, 1915, in Montebello, a son of the late Jacob Yost and Lottie Catherine (Hite) Anderson. Mr. Anderson was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served aboard the USS Hornet during World War II as a 20 mm gunner during the Doolittle Raid against Japan. Prior to retirement, Mr. Anderson was employed by the Postal Service as postmaster, ran the Anderson Groceries in Montebello, and was also a farmer. He was a member of Mt. Paran Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He was a member of AARP and the League of Postmasters. In addition to his wife, family members include, two daughters-in-law and two step-sons and step-daughters-in-law, Everett J. and Judy Campbell of Afton and C. Bruce and Joann Campbell of Staunton; a special step-daughter, Shirley Wade and husband, Jimmy, of Afton; four grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; six great grandchildren; eight step-great grandchildren; two step-great great grandchildren; and a special friend, Foxy. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline (Robertson) Anderson; two sons, Timothy Anderson and Steven F. Anderson; and a sister, Hettie Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 15, 2013, in Mt. Paran Baptist Church by the Revs. Billy Coffey and Fred Salmons. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be James Wade, Rick Fields, Adam Ellinger, Steve Bryant, Sr., Steve Bryant, Jr., Lowell Humphreys, Kenneth Fitzgerald, and Scott Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Mt. Paran Baptist Church and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2013, in the Henry Funeral Home and also at the residence of Shirley Wade, 367 Bland Wade Lane Afton, VA. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Richard Miller and Fanny, Hospice of the Shenandoah, and his special friends at Montebello and Ann Taylor.
