James Edward Belshee, 81, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.

He was born on October 12, 1943, in Staunton to the late Reese Bowen Belshee, Sr. and Mozelle Elizabeth Moubray Belshee Simmons.

Jim dedicated much of his life to the transportation industry, serving as the Director of Safety and Loss Prevention. His career primarily unfolded during his long tenure with Smith’s Transfer Corporation and William Edwards Trucking in Verona.

Upon retiring, Jim devoted himself to supporting the American Frontier Culture Museum, where he served on the Board of Directors. His passion for the museum and its mission led to his instrumental role in raising significant financial support, showcasing his dedication to preserving the rich history of the area he cherished.

A lifelong enthusiast of cars, planes, and trains, Jim crafted many fond memories while serving as the train engineer for the Gypsy Express at Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton for several years.

Having lived in Staunton for most of his life, Jim was known for his love for the community. His warmth and friendliness left a lasting impression on those around him. Jim had a remarkable ability to light up a room with his smile and quick wit. 

He will be fondly remembered for his significant contributions to the community, his unwavering love for transportation, and the joyous spirit he brought to everyone he met

He is survived by his loving partner, Debra Wood of Louisa; his daughters, Kimberly Susan Belshee Rice and her husband, Tim of Richmond, Kristen Elizabeth Belshee Daughtrey and her husband, Allen of Staunton, and Kameron Jean Belshee Webb and her husband, Matt of Roanoke; his sister, Judith Ann Belshee Belanger and her husband, Daniel of King William; his grandchildren, Cameron and Emily Rice and Alex and Grace Daughtrey, and James Buchholz; and his step-grandchildren, Joey, Cora, Charlie, Ben, and Alex Webb, all of which he loved watching grow and thrive.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol Jean Smith Belshee; his brothers, Reese Bowen Belshee, Jr. and Charles William Belshee; and his sister, Zelma Lee Belshee Duff.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Saint John's United Methodist Church in Staunton with the Reverend Charles "Chuck" H. Cole, Jr. officiating.

Inurnment will be private at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton.
