James T. Bryant

James Thomas Bryant, 79, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, at Augusta Health Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville. 

He was born on September 27, 1944, in Orange, TX to the late Hubert Carl and Mae Thomas Bryant.

James was a dedicated and hardworking self-employed building and painting contractor. He attended Calvary Baptist Church in Staunton and was known for his love of hunting and fishing. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he served as a larger-than-life father figure to his family whom he cherished dearly.

James will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, devotion to family, and love for the outdoors.

He is survived by his children, Darrell Wayne Carter, Jr. and his wife, Bonnie, and Tracy Edward Carter and his wife, Donna, Tammy Marie Carter Shinaberry and her husband, Rick, Lisa Cathleen Bryant Allman and her husband, Homer; his step-brother, Phillip Allen Watkins; his grandchildren, Misty Carter, Brandon Carter, Jennifer Carter Brown, Mackenzie Carter, Nicole Rosen, and Samatha Brooks.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Ann Riley Bryant; his daughter, Delores Carter; his stepmother, Ella Mae Watkins Bryant; his brother, Charles David Bryant; his sister, Joyce Ann Bryant Barney; his half-sisters, Betty Jean Bryant Pietrowicz and Linda Lou Bryant Pullen; and a grandson, Clint Anthony Carter. 

A graveside service to honor James's life will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Deerfield Community Cemetery with Nancy Jo Gibson officiating.
