JAMES R. CAREY RAPHINE, VA James Rudolph Carey, 78, widower of JoAnn (Craig) Carey, of 74 Mount Joy Lane, died Friday, May 30, 2014, at his residence. He was born March 14, 1936, in Waynesboro, a son of the late Rudolph and Ann (McQueen) Carey. Mr. Carey was a veteran of the U.S. Navy with 22 years in the Reserves. Prior to retirement, he was employed by DuPont with 30 years of service. He owned Don's TV and Satellite Business and did a great deal of volunteer service. He was a member of McKinley United Methodist Church. Family members include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Brian and Robin Carey and Barry Carey, all of Waynesboro; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindi and Raymond Gochenour of Crimora and Sherri and Walt Smith of Richmond; six grandchildren, Jamie (Heizer) and husband, Justin Stone, Jenna Gochenour, Rachel (Carey) and husband, Travis Kincaid, Ben Carey, and Audrey and Wesley Smith; two great grandchildren, Ryland and Josslynn Stone; and a brother and a sister-in-law, Glenn Allen and Shirby Carey of Waynesboro. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Revs. Donald Long and Pete Campbell. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Military rites will be conducted by the Augusta Staunton VFW Post 2216. Active pallbearers will be Wesley Smith, Ben Carey, Travis Kincaid, Trent Carey, Darren Carey, Walt Smith, and Raymond Gochenour. The family will receive friends at the home of Brian and Robin Carey of Waynesboro. Friends may call at the funeral home anytime. The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice of Augusta Health and Jenny Yancey and other caregivers.
