JAMES L. SWEARENGIN STAUNTON, VA James Leo Swearengin, 79, widower of Ernestine Ardinia (Kershner) Swearengin, of Staunton, died Wednesday, November 20, 2013 in Staunton. He was born April 21, 1934, in Highland County a son of the late Hugh Everett and Emma (Robertson) Swearengin. Mr. Swearengin was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Korea. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a truck driver by Roadway Express. He liked to hunt, fish, and search for mushrooms. He was a Bill Elliott fan. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Everett, Harold "Ham", and Lloyd; and a sister, Clarice Davis. Family members include a daughter, Kelly Denise Britt of Stuarts Draft; two sons, James Ronald Swearengin of Verona and John Timothy Swearengin of Staunton; a brother and sister-in-law, Berlin "Jake" and Paulette Swearengin of Eden, North Carolina; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Charlotte and Robert Shifflett of Hot Springs and Sis Ryder of Warm Springs; two brothers-in-law, Richard Kershner and Jack Armentrout; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Swearengin and Glenda Swearengin; five grandchildren, James Travis "J.T.", Stephanie, Joshua, and Jacob Swearengin, and Tyler Andrew Britt; and a number of nieces and nephews.
