James Robert Whitlock, 95, of Staunton, died on Friday, February 7, 2025 at The Legacy of North Augusta in Staunton, after being a resident there for a short while.
He was born in Staunton on December 12, 1929, a son of the late James Robert Kenneth Whitlock and Leda Frances Michael Whitlock.
Mr. Whitlock retired from the trucking industry. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Staunton. He enjoyed traveling, NASCAR racing, nature and science.
James served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1960 and he was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky and then served in the Korean Conflict as a fleet mechanic, receiving one Bronze Star.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Arey Whitlock, his sister, Mary Ann Whitlock and brother, Edward Harrison Whitlock.
He is survived by a daughter, Deborah K. Johnson and her children, Holly Christine Johnson and Sarah Elizabeth Johnson of Louisville, KY; his great grandchildren, Kennedy, Samuel and Emma; and a son, Kenneth W. Whitlock of Waynesboro. Other important family members include his longtime companion and friend, the late Betty Lou Wenger and her daughter, Sandra Strawderman and her husband, Gerald; and their children, Carenda and Blair, Matt Cox, and her son, Charles Wenger and his wife, Crystal, all of Linville.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 14, 2025 at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton with Pastor Rod Ronneberg officiating.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the Legacy skilled nursing staff, hospice and especially Rachel, Pam and Trish for their care of Jim while he was there.
Arrangements are being handled by Henry Funeral Home.
