Jefferson "Jeff" R. Lawson, III, 73, of Green Hill Farms in Churchville, a lifelong farmer, Shorthorn breeder, teller of stories, and supporter of the sheep industry, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2024, at his residence.
He was born on June 27, 1950, in Staunton to the late Jefferson Rowe Lawson, Jr. and Mary Ann Jennings Lawson.
Raising Shorthorn cattle and commercial sheep was his passion along with supporting the sheep industry in Virginia and surrounding states. His connection to the farming community built a shared storytelling experience with all he met.
Jeff took immense pleasure in sharing tales of his experiences with family and friends. His stories delighted everyone who knew him as they showcased his wit and humor.
For over thirty years, he was employed at the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Staunton, as both a teacher and a coach, giving students a place to find success in his wood shop and in athletics.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Engle Lawson; his son, Troy Lawson and his wife, Laura; his daughter, Maggie Dodson and her husband, Ronnie; and his grandchildren, Carter, Mason, and Aubrey Lawson. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Jennings Lawson and his wife, Barbara.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Jeff's life at 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Staunton with the Reverend John Peterson officiating.
