Jennifer High Johnson, 55, wife of Matthew Johnson, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, in Harrisonburg. She left behind a legacy of compassion and dedication in her personal and professional life.
Jenn was born on February 23, 1969, in Saratoga Springs, New York. She spent her childhood in Burnt Hills, New York, and Chesapeake, Virginia. Jenn graduated from James Madison University in 1991. She furthered her education, holding a master's in counseling from the University of Virginia and a master's in business administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. While attending UVA, Jennifer met and fell in love with her best friend, Matthew. They were married on September 21, 1996.
Jenn was highly respected in the behavioral health field. She served as a substance use disorder counselor at Valley Community Services Board. She was a licensed addiction therapist and later served as the coordinator of LIFE Recovery Program. For the last seven years, Jenn worked at the Joint Commission as a behavioral health surveyor. From 2006-2009, Jenn was the Virginia representative of the NAADAC National Board. From 2000 – 2010, she was a member of the Virginia Association of Addiction Professionals. Jenn served as president of this organization from 2006 – 2009. Jenn was dedicated to building cultures of growth and safety that inspired those around her to work to their highest potential.
As a mother, Jenn was immensely proud of her two daughters, Claudette and Kendra. She nurtured their dreams and ambitions, instilling in them the values of hard work and resilience. Her love for family was boundless, and she served as a guiding light for those around her.
Jenn is survived by her husband, Matthew; her daughters, Claudette and Kendra; her parents, Woody and Brenda High; her sister, Claudette Guy and her brother-in-law, Matthew; her nephews, Ethan and Ryan; and Jenn’s husband’s loving brothers and sisters, nieces, and nephews.
Her passing will be felt deeply by all who knew her. Jenn’s life was one of purpose and dedication. She impacted countless lives through her work and loving relationships. She will be remembered for her unwavering spirit, her caring heart, her dedication to her Lord, and her commitment to making a difference in the world.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the Victory Worship Center, in Staunton with Pastor Tracy Sherrill officiating.
