Joan Fultz Russell, 81, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
She was born at home in Staunton on December 31, 1941 in the midst of a snowstorm to the late Horace Albert, Sr. and Lillian Treva Hockman Fultz.
She was a Robert E. Lee High School graduate and attended Longwood University and Blue Ridge Community College. She retired from Grand’s and was a past employee of Smith’s Transfer, Virginia Made, and Genicom.
She was an avid reader of mystery novels, and she did judge books by their covers. She also loved the challenge of doing daily crossword puzzles in the newspaper.
She dearly loved her children, Mark Russell and her daughter-in-law, Holly Woolwine Russell and Debbie R. Barrack and her husband, Alton. She was so very proud of her grandchildren, Tyler Savage and Kaitlyn Savage and Parker Russell, and she loved them with all her heart. Also left to cherish her memory is her brother, Horace ‘Hal” Albert Fultz, Jr of Van Nuys, CA and his son, Trevor Fultz (Sarah) also of California.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Waynesboro Mennonite Church with Pastor Clair Good officiating. The family wishes to encourage those who plan on attending the memorial service, to wear only casual attire.
