JOANNA P. WYANT STAUNTON, VA Joanna P. Wyant went to be with her Lord on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Augusta Health in Fishersville. She was the daughter of the late John William and Oda Florence (Rader) Phillips. She was born on May 4, 1917 in Headwaters. Joanna graduated from McDowell High School in 1938 and moved to Staunton going to work as a seamstress for L. Grief Brothers-Genesco for 40 years, retiring in 1979. She was a local artist, displaying her paintings locally at The Art in the Park and other local affairs. She was an accomplished seamstress, producing numerous items in many different sewing mediums. Joanna was a devoted and active member of the Staunton Church of the Brethren Church; a former commander of the Ladies Auxiliary of the D.A.V.; and was a loving and devoted family member, friend, and a wonderful Christian. Joanna is survived by a sister, Mary Jane Crummett; a sister-in-law, Mabel Phillips; a step son and his wife, Dorman O. and Barbara Wyant; two step grandchildren, Ashley S. and Lori S. Wyant; a special nephew and his wife, Gary W. and Juanita Wimer; her special caregiver, Mae Carpenter; and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph I. Smith and her second husband, Emory H. Wyant; seven sisters, Lena Kincaid, Eula Pantasis, Twila Hicklin, Nettie Hicklin, Virginia Bishop, Ruth Pullen, and Hester Lamb; two brothers, Raymond Phillips and Wardell Phillips; and a special nephew who was raised as her brother, Leo Phillips. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2011 at Staunton Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Scott L. Duffey. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Headwaters Cemetery, Highland County. Active pallbearers will be Kevin Wimer, Woodie Wimer, Gary Kincaid, Rickie Kincaid, Tim Hall, and Mark Crummett. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Senior Group and the Sunshine Class of the Church. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. prior to the service at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your charity of choice.
