John Calvin Carter, Jr.

JOHN C. CARTER, JR. STAUNTON, VA John Calvin Carter, Jr., 86, widower of Thelma Genevie "GG" (May) Carter, of Staunton, died Thursday, June 30, 2011. He was born January 22, 1925 in Clifton Forge, a son of the late John C. Sr. and Maude (Goodwin) Carter. Prior to retirement Mr. Carter had been employed by Community Motors, Hays Chevrolet, and Lamond Oldsmobile-Cadillac as a service manager. Mr. Carter was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during WWII. He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. He enjoyded spending time at his hunting camp in Bath County. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife on December 2, 1999; a son, Danny L. Carter; and a special friend, Dorothy May. Family members include a son and two daughters-in-law, J. Edward "Eddie" and Kathy Carter of Churchville and Linda Carter of Quinton; two grandchildren, Donna Carter Morris and John David Carter; a step granddaughter, Audrey Brown; four great grandchildren, Carter Morris, Jake Morris, Chase Carter, and Ollie Carter; and his caregiver and neighbor, Martha Rankin. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011 in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4 until 5:30 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Henry Funeral Home and following his service at 197 Doe Hill Drive, Churchville.
