John J. Ready III

John Joseph Ready III, a loving husband and devoted animal rescuer, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville. 

He was born on October 3, 1949, in Saint Louis, Missouri, To the late John Joseph, Jr. and Patricia Allouise Leahy Ready

John shared a remarkable fifty years of marriage with his beloved wife, Barbara Jean Musterer Ready. Their union was a testament to love and companionship, filled with shared interests and cherished moments. Together, they enjoyed many adventures, including memorable tours on the Virginia Scenic Railroad, which held a special place in John’s heart.

Throughout his life, John demonstrated an unwavering dedication to rescuing animals, particularly dogs. His compassion led him to save twenty-seven dogs over the years, providing them with a loving home and a second chance at life. This commitment to animal welfare was just one of the many qualities that defined his character.

John’s interests spanned a wide array of passions. A devoted bibliophile, he found joy in reading and exploring various genres of literature. Music was another significant part of his life; he relished listening to different styles that resonated with his soul. Additionally, John was a history buff, always eager to learn and share knowledge about the past.

John was also known for his love of the arts, particularly theater. He frequently attended performances at ShenanArts and the Waynesboro Players, where he found joy and inspiration through the creativity of the performers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael R Ready.

A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton, with the Reverend Russell Heinrich officiating.

Entombment in the columbarium at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Golden Re-triever Rescue NJ (PO Box 1420, Washington, NJ 07676).
