JOSEPH L. YANCEY STAUNTON -- Joseph Lawrence Yancey, 70, husband of Shirley (Weanes) Yancey of 500 C Street, died at 1:35 p.m. on Saturday (May 21, 2011) at his residence. He was born June 2, 1940 in Staunton, a son of Charles C. and Roberta (Bell) Yancey. Mr. Yancey was a custodian for the City of Waynesboro. He was a member and former Trustee of Morning Star Baptist Church. He is also survived by two sons, Sidney of Dinwiddie, and Mitch (Johanna) of Stuarts Draft; five daughters, Sharon (Richard) of MD, Angel, Jessica, and Patsy (Stanley) of Staunton; Fonda (Edwin) of Fishersville; three brothers, Michael of Harrisonburg, James of D.C., and Robert of TN; four sisters, Barbara of NC, Geneva and Loretta of Staunton, and Sandra of Norfolk; 24 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, William and Daniel; a daughter, Carolyn; four brothers, Charles, William, Curtis, and Edward; and a sister, Nannie Lee. A funeral service will be conducted at Noon on Wednesday (May 25, 2011) at Morning Star Baptist Church in Crimora, by the Revs. Dr. Joseph Walker and Dr. Warne Dawkins. Burial will be private. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be friends of the family. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday (May 24, 2011) in Henry Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter, Jessica, 1115 Stocker Street, Staunton.
