STAUNTON, VA Gloria Joy (Barnett) Lane, 72, wife of Kenneth Lane, formerly of Massanutten, died Thursday, March 20, 2014, in Staunton. She was born January 12, 1942, in Allegheny Township, PA, a daughter of the late Merle and Ethel Rae (Groft) Barnett. Prior to retirement, she was employed as a secretary or executive secretary for the US State Department; Herndon High School; Fairfax County Economic Development Authority; NVR Development; Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi; and Capital One Financial (Corporate). In addition to her husband, family members include, a son, Douglas J. "Doug" Gwin and wife, Eileen of Fairfax; two daughters, Kristina J. "Kristi" Clement and husband, Paul, of Mt. Airy, MD; a step-daughter, Dawn Rene' (Lane) Richardson and husband, Tony of Buhler, KS; a "honorary" daughter, Lauren Thomas of Rehoboth Beach, DE; four grandchildren, Callan, Joshua, Anna Kate, all of Mt. Airy, and Abigail of Fairfax; four step grandchildren and five great step grandchildren, of KS; a sister, Carol P. Adolphsen of Sykesvilles, MD; a niece, Julie; a nephew, Christopher, both of MD; and numerous loved ones. She was preceded in death by a brother, Rollin H. Paine, Jr. A heartfelt special thanks goes to those agencies and especially their staffs that have assisted the family with the nine years she suffered from Dementia. The Alzheimer's Association, and related dementia's; the Greater Shenandoah Valley Support Group of Brain Injury Association; James Madison University; the Caregiver's Community Network at JMU; Home Instead Senior Care; Generation's Crossings' Legacy Hospice; and Wellspring Dementia Unit of Brightview at Baldwin Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Generation's Crossings, 3765 Taylor Spring Lane, Harrisonburg, VA 22801 and/or the Alzheimer's Association, Central & Western VA Chapter, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on April 5 on the grounds of Gypsy Hill Place, Staunton by Chaplain Murphy Terry. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
