Joyce S. Brooks

Joyce Ann Shiflett Brooks, 89, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024, at her residence in Staunton.

She was born on September 14, 1935, in Augusta Springs to the late Gilbert Earl and Thelma Esther Woods Shiflett.

Joyce, fondly referred to as “Crackie”, was a beautician for over forty years in the area. 

She was a devoted member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Staunton. 

Outside of her professional life, Joyce found joy in leisure activities, particularly playing game machines in Charles Town, WV. She was also a proud member of the Elliott's Knob Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 680 in Staunton. Above all she will be remembered for how deeply she loved her family.

She is survived by her soulmate, Ernest “Ernie” Edward Nuckols; her brothers, Wallace Lee Shiflett of Staunton, Danny Ray Shiflett and his wife, Annie of Craigsville; her sisters, Patricia Agnes Shiflett Varner and Bernice Carol Shiflett Hammer and her husband, Don of Staunton; her nephew, Lee Armstrong; her niece, Norma Shiflett; her great nephew, Travis Shiflett; and her great niece, Patricia Michael.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Finley Brooks; her brothers, Earl Kenneth Shiflett, Sr., Henry “Boo” Donald Shiflett, and Bobbie Willard Shiflett; and a sister, Louise Elizabeth Shiflett Fridley.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton with the  Reverend Madison Allinger officiating.
