JOYCE A. EAVERS STAUNTON, VA Joyce Marie (Armstrong) Eavers, 73, widow of W. Thomas Eavers, of Staunton, died Saturday, April 30, 2011, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 17, 1938 in Augusta County a daughter of the late Franklin Arthur and Lelia Lottie (Mynes) Armstrong. Mrs. Eavers was previously employed by Western State and Westinghouse. She had been owner/operator of Eavers Florist, co-owner of Ingleside, and was co-founder of Teaverton Planned Community. Most recently, she was owner/operator of Terry Court Properties. She was a member of the Staunton Elks, the House Committee of the Elks, and Hebron Presbyterian Church. She was such a special friend to so many whose love and support has made a big impact on her life. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Edna Virginia Armstrong Chandler, Margaret Vernelle Brown, Louise Kelsey Armstrong, and June Gray Armstrong Bare; three brothers, Fred Brubeck Armstrong, William Bill Hansford Armstrong, and Franklin Leroy Armstrong; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Eavers. Family members include two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Thomas and Kaye Eavers of Mt. Sidney and John David Eavers and Beth Godwin of Swoope; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela (Eavers) and Kevin D. Watts of Front Royal; a sister, Natalie Armstrong Cash; a very special sister-in-law, Gwen Eavers; eight grandchildren, Amber Anderson, Ashley Grinstead, Jeremy Eavers, Anna Eavers, Erica Watts, Eric Watts, Chad Watts, and Caleb Watts; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Linda Steffey and Emily Steger. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011, in Memorial Baptist Church by Rev. Temple D. Myers. Burial will follow at Shiloh Farm in Swoope. Active pallbearers will be Wayt Timberlake, III, Thomas Richardson, Dan Knopp, Richard Swann, Radar Dodd, Kevin Nolley, Clay Wisely, and Phil Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe McLain, Joe Gilbert, Louis Calloway, Calvin Woodson, Wayne Erskine, Raymond Shull, and members of the Staunton Elks. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011, in the Henry Funeral Home and other times at the Shiloh farm.
