Joyce Ann (Ryder) Eckard, 73, widow of Russell Clyde Eckard, Jr. passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022 in Charlottesville.

Mrs. Eckard was born on May 24, 1949 in Hot Springs to the late William Ellis Ryder and Hazel Ryder McCune.

She was a longtime member of Parkway Wesleyan Church where she served as the church treasurer and played hand bells. Mrs. Eckard earned her Bachelors Degree in Accounting from Mary Baldwin College. Mrs. Eckard loved her tax business and looked forward to tax season every year. She loved traveling and made it to all fifty states. She also enjoyed her dogs and taking her daily walks.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Donna Thompson of Staunton; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and James Young of Verona; a grandchild and husband, Shandi and Jason Pettus of Riner; a great-grandchild, Jeremiah Thompson; three brothers; Jim Ryder (Bonnie) of Staunton; Clayton Ryder of Verona; and Willie McCune (Greta) of New Hope; special niece, Lisa Wells and multiple other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson Ryder and Nicholas Ryder; and two sisters, Jane Kelly and Fannie Bowers.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 15, 2022 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Adam Watts. The family will receive friends starting at 9:30 AM. Burial will be private.
