Judy Mae Furr Ashby, 80, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, September 30, 2023.
She was born on July 6, 1943, in Augusta County to the late Elwood Hamilton and Eva Nutty Furr.
Judy dedicated the majority of her career to General Electric / Genicom in Waynesboro as an expediter, where she worked for an impressive thirty-four years. Afterward, she joined Augusta Orthopedics as a member of their front office staff and continued to contribute her skills and expertise for over a decade.
Outside of work, Judy found joy in various hobbies and interests. As a member of Greenville United Methodist Church, she held a deep faith and found comfort in her spiritual community. Judy's green thumb was evident in her beautiful vegetable and flower gardens which she tended to with love and care. The vibrant blossoms and garden yields were an expression of her nurturing heart.
Family was the center of Judy's life, and she cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will endure through those she touched. Judy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother
Judy is survived by her son, Brent Allen Ashby; her daughters, Starla Ashby Tuennermann (Jeff), and Robyn Ashby Jarvis; her grandchildren, Lauren Jarvis Upton (Thomas), Christopher Jarvis (Jessica), Samantha Tuennermann Campbell (Cody), and Erika Ashby, her great-grandchildren, Eva Jarvis, Peyton Campbell, and Carly Campbell; her brother, Elwood Furr (Becky); her sisters, Shirley Lafon (James), and Nancy Talley; her brother-in-law, David Law; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of forty-seven years, Grover "G.C." Cleveland Ashby; her brothers, Gary "Pete" and Robert "Bob" Furr; her sister, Linda Law; and her brother-in-law, Carl Talley.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton. The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Greenville United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM.
Interment will be private at Augusta Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Greenville United Methodist Church (PO Box 250, Greenville, VA 24440).
The family would like to especially thank all the surrounding neighbors of Judy as well as the caring staff of the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah.
