KATHARINE HOGE SMITH STAUNTON, VA.... Katharine Hoge Smith, 91, of 21 Woodlee Road, Apt. 103, Staunton, died on October 25, 2011 at Augusta Health. Mrs. Smith was born November 26, 1919, the daughter of Oliver Zell and Stella Hanson Hoge. She was predeceased by her first husband, Lt. William L. Ronemus, in 1945, and by her second husband of 58 years, Richard Worthington Smith, and her brothers, Oliver Zell Hoge, Jr. and Benjamin Hanson Hoge. She is survived by her son, William Hoge Ronemus and his wife, Mildred, of Greensboro, N.C., and her daughters Champe Carter Smith, of New York, N.Y., Elizabeth Worthington Kirtz of Staunton, and Katharine Rixey Booth and her husband, George, of Richmond, V.A., grandchildren William Hoge Ronemus, Jr. (Emily), Mildred Ronemus Wyrick (Timothy), Richard Lewis Ronemus (Kate), Emily Worthington Hoffman (Brandon), Richard Wesley Kirtz (Abigail), George Lea Booth, Jr., and Robert Gamble Booth, and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was educated at Mary Baldwin Seminary, Staunton Public Schools, and Mary Baldwin College. She was a life-long member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild, the women's guilds, and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Deane Holt Guild of Kings' Daughters Hospital, the Shenandoah Rose Society, and the Augusta Garden Club, having served as president. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Saturday, October 29, at 11:00 a.m., the Reverend Dr. Paul Nancarrow officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 214 West Beverley Street, Staunton, Virginia 24401.
