Leta Lightner Wimer, 91, of Staunton, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville.

She was the widow of Arvie Glenn Wimer, Jr.

She was born on December 21, 1932, in Valley Center, Highland County, a daughter of the late Harry Robert, Sr. and Bessie Lee Cleek Lightner.

She grew up in Bath County and was a 1951 graduate of Valley High School in Hot Springs.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. 

She was a retiree of the Staunton Office of Augusta Cooperative Farm Bureau, Inc. with over twenty-seven years of service. She was also a member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church in Staunton where she was a member of the Benny Webb Bible Class. Additionally, she was a member of the Gypsy Hill AARP, Chapter #3972 and was a proud charter member of the Sarah Murray Lewis Chapter (Warm Springs) of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. 

In addition to her loving husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Harry, Vernon, Ernest, and Robert Lightner, and her sister, Irene Lightner Bogan. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by her son, Gregory Scott Wimer and his wife, Kellie; her daughter, Debbie Lawson and her husband, Jeff; her three grandchildren, Amanda Barrett and her husband, Joe, Jordan Wimer and his partner, Ashley Tait, and Stephanie Atchison and her husband, Michael; her three great-grandchildren, Finn and Emma Barrett, and Chloe Atchison; and her sister-in-law, Becky Lightner.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with the Reverend Russell Heinrich officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton.

It is suggested that those desiring may make memorial donations to Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church’s Memorial Fund (1614 West Beverley Street, Staunton, VA 24401).
