Linda Lee Guffey Cook, 83, a beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Brookdale Staunton.

She was born on August 7, 1941, in Washington, D.C., to the late Ernest Eugene and Mary Bradley Demastus Guffey.

Linda led a quiet, simple life and was known for her quiet strength and unwavering faith. She dedicated much of her time to attending Mint Spring and Greenville United Methodist Churches, where she immersed herself in Bible studies and found solace in her love for the Lord. Her humble spirit radiated warmth and kindness, making her a cherished presence in the lives of those who knew her.

Outside of her church family, she was a dedicated public servant, retiring from the Augusta County Sheriff's Department as a deputy sheriff for twenty-five years.

In her family, Linda is survived by her daughter, Lisa Gail Cook Surface and her husband, Edward; her son, John William Cook and his wife, Myra; her grandchildren, Marylinn Segars and her husband, Sam, Jessica Surface and her significant other, Aaron Moon, Katrina Brucia and her husband, Joey, and Heather Lambert and her husband, John; two great-grandchildren; and her sister, Barbara Louise Guffey. Also sharing her life was her loyal dog, Daisy, who provided companionship and comfort.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Samuel Cook II.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton, with the Reverend John Craft officiating.

The family would like to especially thank the nurses and staff of the Clare Bridge Memory Care Unit at Brookdale Staunton for all their care, kindness, and compassion during this time.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that those desiring may make memorial contributions to Shenandoah Valley Animal Services (1001 Mt. Torrey Road, Lyndhurst, VA 22952) or to the Valley Mission (1513 West Beverley Street, Staunton, VA 24401).
