Louisia B. Shiflett

Louisia Jane Balser Huffman Shiflett, 73, passed away on Friday March 17, 2023 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.

Louisia was born on May 20, 1949 to the late Charles Franklin and Ida Alice Edmond Balser.

She enjoyed baking cakes and sweets for her family and friends. She was always willing to drive the elderly and those in need of transportation to appointments or on shopping errands. Her favorite hymn was “Amazing Grace”, loved the Lord’s Prayer, and enjoyed listening to gospel music at Gypsy Hill Park. She was also a devoted member of Faith Christian Church on Poplar Street in Staunton and for many years volunteered her time to clean and decorate the church. She took so much pride in changing the décor from season to season. She was also a member of Elliot’s Knob Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 680 in Staunton and the Verona Moose Lodge 2172.

Prior to retirement, she worked at Intrapak, Inc. in Bridgewater. She also was employed at Shoney’s Inn in Staunton for nearly twenty years. As always, she was never far away with an offer for a ride for those that needed help getting to work.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Huffman of Staunton; her grandson, Mitchell Rankin and his partner, Katie Reed and their two sons, Zander and Liam Rankin, all of Martinsville; her sister, Janet Marie Balser Knott; her brother-in-law, Beverly Martin Winegard; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her two sons, Ronnie Lee and Rodney Lee, Jr. Huffman; two brothers, John Henry and Luther Franklin Balser; and her two sisters, Ida Mae Balser Winegard and Charlotte Ann Balser Wood.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from 7:00 – 8:30 PM at Henry Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Faith Christian Church in Staunton with the Reverend Warren Knott officiating.

Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton.
