LuAnne Kathryn Gardyko Scott, 75, a beloved and well-known member of the Mill Gap community, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Maple Lawn Residential Living in Staunton.
She was born on December 3, 1948, in Saginaw, Michigan to her parents, Daniel Anthony and Doris Bell Carter Gardyko.
Throughout her life, LuAnne made significant contributions to her community and touched countless lives. Her career spanned various roles, but it was her work as a lab technician at King's Daughters Hospital in Staunton and Waynesboro Community Hospital that defined the beginning of her professional journey.
In addition to her early work in the field of healthcare, LuAnne embarked on an entrepreneurial venture alongside her beloved husband, Keith. Together they owned and operated Mill Gap Supply store for nearly four decades. This establishment became an essential hub for the community, providing not only groceries but also a warm sense of belonging. LuAnne's genuine care for others extended far beyond transactions at the register - she offered a listening ear and words of comfort when they were most needed.
Mill Gap Supply was more than just a store; it was a testament to LuAnne and Keith's devotion to their adopted community. They understood the unique needs of Highland's climate and operated a greenhouse that brought joy to many with its vibrant array of plants. LuAnne and Keith poured themselves into tending these botanical treasures while sharing her expertise with anyone who sought advice or tips for their own gardens.
While always being dedicated to serving others, LuAnne remained humble and unpretentious and her community-mindedness was at the forefront of everything she did, and she embraced her role as a pillar of support to those around her.
LuAnne's legacy extends beyond her professional and community endeavors; it is deeply rooted in the love and bond she shared with her family. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Paul Keith Scott, who was by her side throughout their incredible journey together. They enjoyed a wonderful forty years together.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Edward John and Gordon Carter Gardyko and her infant sister, Lois Laraine Gardyko.
She will be inurned at Green Hill Cemetery in Mill Gap, overlooking her beloved store and community.
