Mary Ann Price Clatterbaugh, formerly of 686 Philip Street, passed away on her ninetieth birthday at The Retreat at Fishersville. She was born on November 30, 1932 in Augusta County, the second of five children, to the late William H. Price, Sr. and Helen F. Anderson Price.
Mary Ann graduated from Spottswood High School, class of 1950, with honors. She loved basketball and was captain of her team. She later attended Dunsmore Business College and went on to work at Montgomery Ward in 1951, retiring as Credit Manager in 1994 with 43 years of service. After retiring, she worked at Holt’s China and Gifts in downtown Staunton for ten years and then at the Fashion Gallery in Verona for eleven years.
Mary Ann was a member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church. She loved and enjoyed her family and friends, always making them feel so special by receiving a beautifully wrapped present or card or note written in her lovely calligraphy writing. She enjoyed her customers and fellow workers, her home, cooking up special meals, and shopping.
Her late husband said of her, “Mary Ann was the kind of person who thought if something had to be done it should be done right. She was very neat with everything she did. She was a great cook and baker She cooked great holiday meals for her family. She loved to decorate for all seasons. She always put others before herself. She was always neat and took great pains with her looks and dress. All the people who loved her and knew her will never forget her because she was a great lady.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard W. Clatterbaugh, whom she married on August 8, 1953 and enjoyed 63 of marriage. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, William H. Price, Jr. and Lyle Thomas Price and sister, Maxine P. Robertson.
Surviving are a son, Gregg W. Clatterbaugh of Christiansburg and a daughter, Susan L. and husband, Terry L. Holsinger of Staunton; three grandchildren, Andrew R. Holsinger, Julia A. Holsinger of Staunton, and Clay W. Clatterbaugh of Christiansburg; sister, Thelma P. Simmons of Maryland; sister-in-law, Betsy O. Price of Staunton; uncle, Eugene Anderson of Staunton; and many nieces and nephews.
Per her wishes, her body will be cremated with burial in Thornrose Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Henry Funeral Home, on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 6 pm and will be officiated by her nephew, Pastor Bobby Campbell with a family visitation following the service.
