Mary Ann S. Morriss

Mary Ann Sibley Morriss, 92, widow of the Reverend Doctor Woodward Dale Morriss, Jr., passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Summit Square Retirement Community in Waynesboro.

Mary Ann was born on November 11, 1930, in Memphis, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Ernest and Jessie Whiteside Sibley.

She was a sixth-grade teacher in the Staunton City School System and served as a missionary in Japan with her husband, Woody, for a decade. She was a devoted member of Staunton’s Third Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Amy Peregoy (Bob), of Waldorf, Maryland and Beverly Mackey (Mark), of Palmyra, Virginia; her grandchildren, Jennifer Anderson (Mike), Kevin Peregoy, Jessica Stark (Matt), Stuart Greene, Laura Peregoy, Dylan Greene, Zachary Mackey; six great-grandchildren; one nephew; and two nieces. She is also survived by special family friends, Pam and Art McCray of Staunton.

In addition to her loving husband of fifty-four years and her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Andrew Morriss; her daughter, Ellen Morriss; her brother, Charles Sibley; and her sister, Kathryn Sibley.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 20 at 11:00 AM at Third Presbyterian Church by the Reverend Jacob Singleton.

Interment will precede the memorial service at 10:00 AM at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens.
