Mary Margaret Knox Coyner, 85, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in Stuarts Draft on Saturday, September 2, 2023.
Mary was born in Rockbridge County on April 2, 1938, to the late Howard Benjamin and Gertrude Virginia Mynes Knox.
Mary had a well-known passion and talent as a cook. Her homemade dishes brought joy to countless gatherings and family meals. Mary took great pride in preparing delicious meals that would bring people together.
Mary's legacy is not only defined by her skills in the kitchen but also by the love and care she showered upon her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Pam Doyle and her husband, Denny, Darla Eavers and her husband, Gary, Scott Coyner and his wife, Gail, and Gina Henderson and her husband, Jeff. Mary cherished her role as a grandmother. Amanda, Brian, Jessica, Gary Lee, Heather, Travis, Megan, Justin, Jeremy, and Morgan are all beloved grandchildren. Her legacy of love extends even further with her great-grandchildren, Carter, Abigail, Bryanna, Summer, Corrin, Sadie, Nolan, Kylie Grace, Tripp, Huxton, Bodie, Luna, Charlotte, Benjamin, and Graham.
In addition to her parents and her loving, late husband, Kenneth Alexander Coyner, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Rhonda Coiner; her sisters, Kitty Knox Ramsey and Patricia Ann Knox; her grandchildren, Chris Carter and Tasha Eavers; and her great-grandchild, Christian Midgett.
The family would like to especially thank Mary’s volunteer caregiver, Lynnette, her nurse, Kasie, and all the staff of the Hospice of the Shenandoah who showed Mary so much care, attention, and kindness in her final days.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Steeles Tavern. The service will commence at 11:00 AM with Pastor Billy Coffey officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Lee Eavers, Travis Coyner, Brian Coiner, Justin Kerby, Jeremy Kerby, and Jeff Henderson.
In lieu of flowers, is suggested that those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah (P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939).
